Hierarchy

Hierarchy is a reading contract

  • A screen needs a deliberate reading order.
  • Too many weights and sizes create noise.
  • A small scale often creates stronger hierarchy than many one-off styles.
Noisy type

Several text sizes, weights, and colors compete for attention.

  • No clear first read
  • Weak labels
  • Harder scanning
System type

A small set of roles makes the screen easier to parse.

  • Clear title
  • Readable body
  • Consistent labels
